Dear Esther is a first-person adventure game developed by thechineseroom adventure for Microsoft Windows PC and Mac OS X. For the first time in June 2008 as a free mod for the Source engine, the game Dear Esther was completely rebuilt between 2009 and 2011 for a commercial launch in February 2012. The game does not follow the traditional conventions of videogames, as it involves minimal interaction by the player and does not require decisions to be made and tasks to complete. Instead, put the focus on your story, which is told through a fragmented narrative, epistolary read the player as they explore an unnamed island in the Hebrides.
Dear Esther status as a video game has been challenged by critics, but the game yet received a positive critical reception following its release on February 14, 2012.
